Introduction

The Katschberg tunnel, a 5,5 kilometers long tunnel on the Austria's A10 highway between Salzburg and Villach, is used by hundreds of thousands of tourists every year on their route to Croatia or Italy.

Many of them do not realise that they have just bypassed the Katschberg mountain pass, located at 1,640 meters above sea level and surrounded by the stunning Katschberg-Aineck ski resort. This area is regarded by Austrians as their vacation paradise, and they cherish it as their own little private secret.

Right in the mountain saddle, a mere 500 meters from the main cable car, within walking distance from restaurants, shops, and bars, a new apartment complex with 19 units and an underground garage was opened in December 2023. Several apartments are still offered for sale.

The apartments are fully furnished and operational. 

Owners can enjoy their apartment for up to 6 weeks anytime during the year, plus they can take advantage of last minute stays (meaning booking on short notice when the apartment is not reserved for regular guests).

All the administration and management of the apartment house is ensured by a professional company, taking care of:

  • check in/out management

  • regular maintenance, repairs, and cleaning

It goes without saying that only high-quality materials were used during the construction and in the furnishing of the interior.

Katschberg pass and its surroundings

The Katschberg mountain pass is located at an altitude of 1,640 metres above sea level, on the main Alpine ridge that separates Salzburg and Carinthia. The region offers the best of both regions - breathtaking nature and alpine scenery.

Winter sports enthusiasts will enjoy the 70 kilometres of sunlit slopes of all difficulties. For very advanced skiers, the black, three-kilometre-long and partially ungroomed Diretissima is one of the steepest slopes in Austria with a gradient of almost 100%.

Families with children will appreciate a training meadow in the Katschberg mountain saddle or the blue slope called Branntweiner. The ski area is served by a total of 16 modern lifts, which lead to the highest surrounding hills - Tschaneck (2,030 m) and Aineck (2,220 m). The descent from Aineck to the Lungau valley is 6 kilometres long and covers an elevation gain of more than 1,100 metres.

The great advantage of Katschberg as a summer holiday destination is its excellent location between the High Tauern and the Nockberge Biosphere Park. With its grassy hills that are more reminiscent of the Low Tatras or the Ukrainian Poloniny, the Nockberge is a paradise for hikers of all ages.

In summer, you and your family may visit the Katschhausen amusement park, where children can enjoy the mini-zoo or the water world with its jumps and slides. Just 8 kilometres from the mountain pass, you can find the Lungau - Katschberg golf course.
